Part of the reason it's so expensive is that it's made out of a robust and durable steel frame. This reduces the likelihood of corrosion happening and allows you to keep it for as long as possible. It also comes with trays underneath, allowing you to pull them out, making them easy to clean. Arguably, the price is worth paying for as it comes with a fully assembled offset door to shelter your husky from the bad weather. Similarly, metal is durable and is good for huskies that love to chew and bite. First of all, wood helps provide insulation, and it's good to look at.

Interested in adopting Shinobi? Rescued from a difficult situation, now safe at Husky House, Boo Boo is looking for his loving forever home. He will need an owner who will continue to help him with his leash training. He would do best in a home with a secure, fenced in backyard. Please no apartments/townhouses or homes with young/small children.

The dad to Cindy Lou's puppies, he is looking for his loving forever home. Alaska is a friendly dog who loves to meet new people and give kisses. He is good with other dogs his size but has never been tested with small dogs or cats.

Interested in making Maverick a part of your life? Huskyhouse.org today to fill out an application. Meet Roxie, a husky mix who was dumped in a shelter when she was pregnant. Husky House pulled her and she gave birth to beautiful puppies, and now she is looking for her loving, forever home.

Similarly, if you live in a location that's susceptible to a lot of downpours, you may wish to get a husky dog house that has a raised floor to prevent it from flooding. Now more than ever, dogs need your help! There are record amounts of dogs in shelters located in Los Angeles and throughout Southern California. Fostering is free and saves lives. Black and white in color with one blue and one brown.

Unfortunately, Archie has had a few seizures since arriving at Husky House, so he takes medication twice daily to help manage them. Poor Archie is very nervous around people, which is understandable given his history. He does not go out of his way to snap, but may growl or get snappy when people do not respect his boundaries (e.g. try to pick him up when he is uncomfortable). Archie does well with other small dogs. He has never been cat tested but would be expected to do well with cats as he is small and not overly playful. One of Cindy Lou's puppies, Duke is ready for his forever home!

Interested in adopting Boo Boo? An owner surrender, Blue is looking for a loving forever home where he can live stress free. He needs a home with experienced owners who understand his anxiety issues and would do best in an adult home (no children). Georgia is a terrier mix who is looking for her loving forever home.

Home Depot's massive Spring Black Friday sale is in full swing after launching earlier this month on April 4. But the sale ends at the end of today. The state’s workforce is down 22% from 15 years ago, and union leaders say many agencies and departments are dangerously understaffed.

Plus, a sloped roof can help move rain and snow off the dog house, stopping a husky from getting cold. Depending on where you live, you might find yourself experiencing different temperatures. Regardless of the temperature, a husky needs to have a dog house that's well insulated against the elements.

It also weighs 54lbs and is made out of wood, making it perfect for any type of weather. What's great about these dog houses is that they're made from solid wood and has stainless steel hardware. These features help make this durable against different types of weather, pests, rot, and rust. This dog house is specifically built for large breeds like the Siberian husky and is friendly on the bank balance costing $143.52.

He is now looking for his forever home at Husky House. Eddie is a friendly and high energy dog! He is working on learning good doggy leash manners. Eddie appears interested in other dogs but hasn’t been officially dog tested yet. Rebel is a very sweet boy who is looking for his loving forever home. Despite his name, Rebel is actually a very well behaved, gentle dog!

Star is a female Pomsky who just arrived at Husky House. We had been receiving reports of a “family of huskies” running loose in Newark and reached out to other rescues, but everyone is packed. We couldn’t risk letting them get hit by a car (or worse!) so they’re now safe with us. She was very scared when she arrived, but is starting to warm up.

They think I was only around 10 months old. Nonetheless I gave birth like a champ and performed my motherly duties the best that I could for being such a young Mom. I have raised my babies and now it is time for me to find a permanent home of my own. I have been living with 5 other dogs and I have experienced cats also. I love to play with toys and my foster brother and sisters. I know how to sit and I like to sometimes talk to my humans.

Hollywood Huskies

I love being brushed and am getting used to the bath. I still have a couple of puppy qualities that could use some correction. Please consider adopting me and giving me a forever home. Eddie is a male husky who was abandoned by his previous owners at a vet office a few days before Christmas.

Interested in adopting Daddy Alaska? One of Cindy Lou's puppies, Knight is ready for his forever home! He's super sweet and loves to play, especially outside. He is working on house breaking, and his foster mom says he's doing great. Knight is intrigued by cats and love to watch TV. He also gets along with big dogs too!

Luna Siberian Rescue is a small but mighty 501c3 non-profit Husky Rescue located in Southern California  near Joshua Tree National Park. Our first husky Luna inspired us to try and help other huskies in need. Clyde is VERY handsome Husky, surrendered with Bonnie by his owners due unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances. Sadie is a happy and energetic puppy almost 6 month old. She has been with our family since she was 10 weeks old.

We will be updating her bio as we get to know her. Apply to adopt Star at huskyhouse.org. She's a female shih-tzu mix who was surrendered by a backyard breeder because one of the littermates was having seizures. She’s doing great in her foster home and hasn’t had any issues. Apply to adopt Bellini at huskyhouse.org. She's female shih-tzu mix who was surrendered by a backyard breeder because one of the littermates was having seizures.

She would also do best in a family without young kids due to resource guarding. Louisa is an adult female German shepherd who initially came to Husky House all the way from Qatar! Louisa is a smart, affectionate, and playful dog.

Look at past, current, and future fundraisers to get a better understanding of how we raise money and the best ways to support our cause! The money we raise directly goes to help rescue + transport dogs, get treatment and care, and supplies for their continued care. Very happy when he visits the beach.

The facility we were surrendered to had me all set up to be spayed but they realized I was not only pregnant but very pregnant. Thank goodness Lorraine from Husky House agreed to take me in since my pregnancy was close to coming to an end. Lorraine found me a foster and within 2 days of being at my foster I gave birth to 6 beautiful babies, 3 males and 3 females. My babies had a rough start due to me being malnourished and just a puppy myself.

The draperies are horse blankets.” The ceramics were potted by Pearce. Stephen Pearce, the son of an old and dear friend, lived 15 minutes away in a house he had constructed. A potter, he understood what Lansbury was looking for because he had created a version of the vision himself, a house inspired by the traditional masonry farmhouses with slate roofs. When both of her children struggled with drugs in the late 1960s (her daughter, Lansbury revealed in a 2014 interview, “was in with a crowd led by Charles Manson”), she decided to move the family from Malibu to County Cork, Ireland. They spent the 1970s there; later, while filming Murder, She Wrote in Los Angeles, Lansbury felt the pull of Ireland again.

“There was a huge amount of work, a lot of talking and drawing,” says Pearce. You might also enjoy our unique cultural and educational programs, many of which take place in the historic Decatur House just a block away from the White House itself.

After an extensive revamping, the White House Visitor Center is now open again to the public. That is the call sign for any USMC aircraft that has the President on board, just like Air Force one denotes whatever plane is carrying the President. You can, however, walk directly on the grass to the center of the Ellipse. There is a gift shop inside the White House that sells the famous White House Christmas ornament and many other items from the White House Historical Association.

Five mountain lions have been killed this year trying to cross Southern California freeways. “I was part of a group of people in Los Angeles at the time who felt there were holes in wine programs around town,” says Johannesen, who also developed the service model for the busy restaurant. “There was homogeneous energy and the boundaries needed to be pushed.” Animal arrived during influential wine critic Robert Parker Jr.’s reign, when LA wine lists favored big Napa cabs, pricey French Bordeaux, and bold Tuscan Brunello di Montalcino. Young diners couldn’t afford these bottles, but even worse, a pour of PlumpJack Estate cabernet sauvignon doesn’t exactly pair well with kung pao sweetbreads. That is no longer the case; prices for such ingredients spiked over Animal’s decade-plus in business, and their availability has declined due to farmers fetching a higher price for pet food brands. The cuts are also in higher demand on restaurant plates, thanks in no small part to Animal itself. The restaurant also struggled with the prohibition (and subsequent unbanning and re-banning) of foie gras in California — an ingredient that played a prominent part of Animal’s original menu standouts like loco moco.

Furst’s breakout role was as Dorfman in the 1978 film “Animal House,” which also marked the film debut of “Saturday Night Live” star John Belushi. Now that the movie has reached its 40th birthday — it first hit theaters July 28, 1978 — The Hollywood Reporter breaks down what the principal actors have been doing since the fraternity members' expulsion from Faber College. "What we need right now," Otter tells his fraternity brothers, "is a stupid, futile gesture on someone's part." And no fraternity on campus -- on any campus -- is better qualified to provide such a gesture than the Deltas. They have the title role in "National Lampoon's Animal House," which remembers all the way back to 1962, when college was simpler, beer was cheaper, and girls were harder to seduce. The talents of director John Landis and Saturday Night Live's irrepressible John Belushi conspired to create a rambunctious, subversive college comedy that continues to resonate.

While Animal stayed focused on offal dishes, LA diners were shifting to more familiar and comforting flavors with a twist, like caviar-topped fish sticks, turmeric chicken wings, or curry-covered biscuits. “All these restaurants are coming back with all these classic dishes done in a simple way,” says Dotolo. Losing the pig ears, veal brains, and beef hearts would mean losing the restaurant’s identity. In 2009 Helen Johannesen introduced inexpensive, mineral-y, acidic wines that mirrored Animal’s edgy cuisine, and brought vital front-of-house leadership just as the restaurant went into high gear. There are about 4,000 to 6,000 mountain lions in California, but wildlife officials call that a crude estimate without an ongoing statewide study. More than half of the state is considered prime habitat for the big cats, which can be found wherever deer are present.

Animal brought the cultures of LA onto its menu with its own perspective, incorporating the assertive, over-seasoned, and spicy flavors that locals crave. Dotolo and Shook’s inspiration came from eating through LA’s cultural enclaves. “We couldn’t afford to travel in the early days, and when we did get the money we’d spend it all eating out at places we could afford,” says Dotolo. In LA you can eat the world and its offal — Hawaiian staples in Gardena, bar food in Koreatown, and pupusas on Beverly Boulevard — without even getting on a plane.

I think we’re looking for all the different ways the human experience is interpreted and expressed, and we look to provide a wide variety of ways people communicate those experiences in print. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife receives hundreds of mountain lion sighting reports each year. Few result in mountain lions being identified as posing an imminent threat to public safety, the department said. Mountain lion attacks on humans are extremely rare and their nature is to avoid humans. Vehicles and toxicants, like rat poisons, are two of the biggest threats to mountain lions in Southern California. In the film, the overweight and socially awkward Dorfman and his friend Lawrence “Larry” Kroger (Tom Hulce) pledge at the raucous Delta House run by Eric “Otter” Stratton (Tim Matheson) and the slovenly John “Bluto” Blutarsky (Belushi).

Big cats, coyotes, deer, lizards, snakes and other creatures will have a safe route to open space in the Santa Monica Mountains and better access to food and potential mates. Construction of a wildlife crossing designed to preserve Southern California's mountain lions and other animals is underway over the 101 Freeway northwest of Los Angeles. In 2009, Walter Manzke started to serve crispy ears with bearnaise at Church & State, while Josef Centeno turned out brightly spiced crispy pig ears alongside horseradish aioli at Lazy Ox. You may have heard that the bears were coming into neighborhoods because of the drought in the region and figured their newsworthy visits would stop now that the drought is over. Local wildlife experts say decades of learned behavior mean the bears won’t break their habits of commuting for an easy meal and pool party. So we can still look forward to news footage of bears getting darted and goofily falling from trees.

With Otter's support, Bluto rallies the Deltas to seek revenge during the annual Homecoming parade. D-Day converts Fred's damaged Lincoln into the "Deathmobile," an armored vehicle concealed inside a cake-shaped breakaway float, and the Deltas wreak havoc during the parade. It culminates in the Deathmobile ramming the reviewing stand, tossing Marmalard, Wormer, DePasto and their wives into the air. Unconcerned, the Deltas organize a toga party, recruiting Pinto and Flounder to shoplift party supplies from a supermarket. At the market, Pinto meets a young cashier named Clorette and invites her to the party, while Otter flirts with an older woman, who turns out to be Wormer's alcoholic wife, Marion. During the toga party, at which Otis Day and the Knights perform, Otter seduces Marion, while Pinto and Clorette make out until she passes out, drunk.

Various incidents deepen the animosity between Delta, Omega, and Wormer, including the accidental death of Neidermeyer's horse during a retaliatory prank for bullying ROTC member Flounder. Otter flirts with Mandy, having previously had sex with her, unbeknownst to Marmalard. Though state law doesn’t specify how wolves in the predator zone can be killed and doesn’t specifically prohibit running them over, the Humane Society and others argue the state’s animal cruelty law applies in this case. Wyoming’s rules, including the predator zone, have withstood multiple court challenges that have put wolves on and off the endangered species list since they were first delisted in 2008. Wolves haven't been on the list in the region since a 2017 court order and their current Wyoming population of more than 300 is similar to their number in 2010. Wyoming’s rules have long invited controversy but are unlikely to harm the overall population because most of the animals in the state live in the Yellowstone region, said wolf expert and former U.S.

In hindsight, they wonder if hiring a PR or marketing firm might have helped to boost returning sales, and they question their decision to not somehow utilize their space during the restaurant closures of 2020 and 2021. “My time at Animal was the most valuable time spent in any kitchen in my career,” says Eduardo Ruiz, who was a chef de partie at Animal before going on to open the critically acclaimed Corazón y Miel in Bell. Over 15 years, Animal’s menus helped to shape the way that America eats; its deep roster of former talent has given Los Angeles many more years of culinary excellence to look forward to.

In nearly every perceivable way, today’s restaurant market is dramatically different than it was in 2008. Yet perhaps more than losing their favorite cuts or struggling to stay relevant on the plate, the closure of Animal was personal for Shook and Dotolo. They simply decided that their seminal restaurant was no longer sustainable for them as people. In June, mountain lion P-54, who is part of a National Park Service mountain lion study, was struck and killed by a vehicle in the Malibu area.

Alums have become some of the most influential cooks, chefs, and restaurant operators in the industry. In 2016, chef Jonathan Whitener would go on to craft one of LA’s most exciting global menus at Here’s Looking at You in Koreatown with former Animal manager and now business partner Lien Ta. Miles Thompson worked at Animal before opening the ambitious and affordable tasting-menu restaurant Allumette in Echo Park, followed by a spot at the helm of Santa Monica fine dining institution Michael’s. So instead, Johannesen would pair a white Burgundy with notes of floral, white-fleshed stone fruit or a bright Sancerre rosé with the barbecued pork belly sandwiches and oxtail poutine. “I saw a need for wines with acidity, minerality, and a softer touch,” says Johannesen, resulting in a wine list dotted with fun bottles of wine under $60. Johannesen’s wines, and service style, became an extension of Animal’s playful menu, and was years ahead of today’s trend of natural, funky wines.

National Lampoon's Animal House is a 1978 American comedy film directed by John Landis and written by Harold Ramis, Douglas Kenney and Chris Miller. It stars John Belushi, Tim Matheson, John Vernon, Verna Bloom, Thomas Hulce and Donald Sutherland. The film is about a trouble-making fraternity whose members challenge the authority of the dean of the fictional Faber College. The Santa Rosa, California, dog trainer posted on the state’s tourism Instagram account that she would not get married in Wyoming next year as planned. The post was among hundreds of similar comments, many with a #boycottwyoming hashtag on social media in recent weeks.

There are limits on hunting and trapping in the northwestern corner of the state and killing them is prohibited in Yellowstone and neighboring Grand Teton National Park, where they are a major attraction for millions of tourists. But outside the Yellowstone region, in the 85% of the state known as the “predator zone,” they can be freely killed. On Thursday, a Las Vegas judge released the couple on their recognizance and ordered them to stay out of trouble and not have any animals. The Oregon-based rescuer, who was raised in South Florida, started the Lee Asher's World account this month. Unlike his other social media accounts, Asher said in a video this one will be much broader in content. It’s a business of passion for chefs and restaurateurs who must deny the reality that the average lifespan of a restaurant is five years, with up to 90 percent failing within the first year.

The comedy, which was directed by John Landis, was a massive hit and was also praised by critics. Furst reprised the role in the short-lived spinoff, ABC’s “Delta House” in 1979. Animal House tells the wonderfully chaotic story of college fraternity misfits who battle with their dean and the rival fraternity’s president to keep their spot on campus. One death of a horse, "double-secret probation," multiple failed exams and a one-night stand with the dean’s wife later, the members of Delta Tau Chi get (spoiler alert!) expelled — and plot out an elaborate revenge. Jon & Vinny’s has expanded to four branches, and the duo also operates local mini-grocery Cookbook while continuing to run one of LA’s busiest catering companies. There’s plenty to keep Shook and Dotolo busy when they’re not spending time with family.

In the 1980s, it was difficult for Titans to throw a Valentine's Day function because the vast majority of members were busy attending Valentine's Day functions put on by the Women's Social Clubs on campus. In a stroke of genius, the Titans administration decided to celebrate Groundhog Day rather than Valentine's Day. Over time, the Groundhog Day party evolved into the famous TOGA banquet and concert it is today. The members and their dates dress up in their togas and attend a dinner where superlatives are distributed and other activities occur. Out of every club on campus, TOGA sells more tickets and draws more of a crowd than any other club-organized event. Animal House was the first film produced by National Lampoon, the most popular humor magazine on college campuses in the mid-1970s.[12] The periodical specialized in satirizing politics and popular culture.

He’s famous for being the straight-edged “Weekend Update” co-anchor on Saturday Night Live, working alongside the much raunchier, more dangerous Michael Che. His roast at Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner was nowhere near as brutal as Stephen Colbert’s famous WHCD roast in 2006, but it was certainly entertaining. “You have people who are thinking, ‘I’ve lived in this home for 20 years, I raised my kids in this house. This latest court appearance comes after one on Tuesday where a judge determined the two will serve a suspended sentence on house arrest. That hearing was only regarding the car stop in Boulder City, which led officers to the hoarding scenes at three different locations. Court records show 14 felony charges of torturing or killing an animal were filed today for the couple.

The White House: The History Behind the Presidential Home

When modifications were made during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt, who used a wheelchair because of his paralytic illness. When Chester A. Arthur took office in 1881, he ordered renovations to the White House to take place as soon as the recently widowed Lucretia Garfield moved out. Nine proposals were submitted for the new presidential residence with the award going to Irish-American architect James Hoban.

Ronald Reagan, a former actor, had a television camera placed inside his limousine during the ride from the Capitol to the White House in 1985. And in 1997, Bill Clinton’s inauguration was the first to be streamed live on the internet. In 1897, William McKinley’s inauguration was captured on a motion picture camera, and Calvin Coolidge’s in 1925 was transmitted on radio. In 1921, Warren G. Harding was the first to ride to his inauguration in an automobile.

As a result, the White House still frequently hosts members of the public for tours free of charge, except during times of war. When Thomas Jefferson moved into the house in 1801, he added low colonnades on each wing that concealed stables and storage. Successive presidents and their families have also made structural changes, and it is custom for presidents and their families to decorate the interior to suit their personal taste and style. Jefferson often contributed to Latrobe’s designs and occasionally caused the architect some annoyance.

What Happens in the West Wing?

In 1842 the visit to the United States of the English novelist Charles Dickens brought an official invitation to the White House. After his calls at the White House door went unanswered, Dickens let himself in and walked through the mansion from room to room on the lower and upper floors. Finally coming upon a room filled with nearly two dozen people, he was shocked and appalled to see many of them spitting on the carpet. Dickens later wrote, “I take it for granted the Presidential housemaids have high wages.” Until the Civil War, however, most White House servants were enslaved people.

The general layout of the White House grounds today is based on the 1935 design by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. of the Olmsted Brothers firm, commissioned by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. During the Kennedy administration, the White House Rose Garden was redesigned by Rachel Lambert Mellon. Bordering the East Colonnade is the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, which was begun by Jacqueline Kennedy but completed after her husband's assassination. The East Wing, which contains additional office space, was added to the White House in 1942.

Jefferson announced the competition—which offered a prize of $500 (or a medal of equal value)—and even reportedly submitted a design himself under the initials “A.Z”. In July of 1792, Irish-born architect James Hoban’s submission was selected by Washington, and he was hired to build the White House. It was almost immediately reconstructed, and a semi-circular South portico and North portico were added a while later. Because of overcrowding, Roosevelt had all work offices relocated to the newly-constructed West Wing in 1901. The White House was set on fire by the British Army in 1814, during the Burning of Washington.

The mansion quickly became a focal point of the new federal city and was symbolically linked to the United States Capitol by way of Pennsylvania Avenue. Following his inauguration in March 1801, Jefferson became the second president to reside in the executive mansion. In keeping with his ardent republicanism, he opened the house to public visitation each morning, a tradition that was continued (during peacetime) by all his successors.

At the time of his election, the official residence of the president was at 190 High Street in the city of Philadelphia. John Adams became the first president to move into the White House on November 1, 1800. During his time in office, he involved the US in the war between the British and French which saw him lose popularity and lost to Thomas Jefferson in the 1800 election. The official home for the U.S. president was designed by Irish-born architect James Hoban in the 1790s. Rebuilt after a British attack in 1814, the “President’s House” evolved with the personal touches of its residents, and accommodated such technological changes as the installation of electricity.

Here’s a look at the history of the country’s most famous residence and its growth from a simple house to a vast office complex capable of running the nation. Irish-born architect James Hoban modelled his plans on Leinster House in Dublin and won the competition for his practical and attractive design. Construction began immediately, with the neoclassical style building being built by enslaved people, labourers and stonemasons imported from Edinburgh, Scotland, between 1792 and 1800. Madison insisted on rebuilding on the same spot — using the original architect, James Hoban, and incorporating the scorched mansion's sandstone walls that remained standing — and reconstruction soon began.

Commissioners, charged by Congress with building the new city, initially planned to import workers from Europe. Response to recruitment was dismal, but they found good hands among African Americans—enslaved and free—to increase the labor force that built the White House, U.S. Capitol, and other early government buildings. In L’Enfant’s city plan, both the President’s House and the Capitol were to be located at the cardinal points of the city. His original plan proposed that the executive mansion be four times larger than the house that would eventually be built. It would be built on a ridge with a beautiful view overlooking the Potomac toward Mount Vernon, George Washington’s home.

The West Wing also houses the Situation Room, the Cabinet Room, the Press Room, and offices for advisors and the chief of staff. Additional offices for the president’s staff are located in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The vice president has an office in the West Wing, as well as the ceremonial office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Before the construction of the North Portico, most public events were entered from the South Lawn, the grading and planting of which was ordered by Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson also drafted a planting plan for the North Lawn that included large trees that would have mostly obscured the house from Pennsylvania Avenue. During the mid-to-late 19th century a series of ever larger greenhouses were built on the west side of the house, where the current West Wing is located.
